The Music of the Night, The Bluest Eyes, and Grr...the MTA Strike
Hey everyone, why am I here so early on a Tuesday? You'll find out in a minute. First I wanna tell you about my wonderful experiences last week with theatre and film.

Last Thursday, I saw "The Phantom of the Opera" for the first time. I had heard many great things about the musical from Kyle and others, but I didn't really know the story. I went with my Dad. I really liked the sets and the lighting, especially the lake. The songs were so moving and beautiful. My favorite song, "All I Ask of You" was so great in person. I am definitely looking forward to seeing the production again before it ends December 6.

Last Thursday I had one of the best movie experiences I've ever had. I saw "Lawrence of Arabia" at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Wow, what a movie!! It is nearly 4 hours long, but it is 4 hours of pure cinematic gold. The long, wide shots of desert and sun were glorious. I totally fell in love with Peter 'O Toole (seen above). Just look at those eyes!! That wasn't the only reason I liked it hehe The story was great and there was a nice balance of humor in the serious subject matter. If you haven't seen "Lawrence of Arabia", I definitely *highly* recommend it. For your information, here's a list of awards won by the film, courtesy of Kyle:
1962 Academy Award Winner for:
Best Picture
Best Achievement in Directing (David Lean)
Best Achievement in Cinematography (Freddie Young)
Best Music Score (Maurice Jarre)
Best Achievement in Film Editing (Anne V. Coates)
Best Achievement in Art Direction (John Box and John Stoll)
Set Direction (Dario Simoni)
Best Achievement in Sound (John Cox)
Grr...The MTA Strike
The MTA went on strike last night at 12:01am, leaving me and thousands of others without a ride. I'm getting through this week with my Dad's help, but I have to find another ride by the end of this week. My Dad is going in late to work all week to get me here. I think I'm going to put an ad in the CSUN paper, the Sundial. I'm sure there are a lot of other CSUN students in my same situation.
Love,
Amanda
